U.S. Embassy hosts fundraising exhibition

September 19th 2006: The U.S. Embassy-Harare announces the opening of “Art for Hope”, an art exhibition to benefit underprivileged children in Zimbabwe on Friday September 22nd 2006 at the Harare International School (HIS), Mount Pleasant, Harare. The exhibition begins with a private showing on Friday evening and will be open to members of the public on Saturday, September 23rd from 0900 hours to 1300 hours.

Now in its fourth year, Art for Hope will exhibit over three hundred pieces of work by more than sixty artists. Participating artists include Prince Matsika, Charles Kamangwana, Sharon Alberts, Alexander Danille, David Chinyama, Barry Lungu, Boarding Dzinotizei and many more. The artists will display for sale a variety of works of art representing all of Zimbabwe.

40 percent of the proceeds will go to charity.

Art for Hope is the brainchild of local artist, David Chinyama, who offered to use his work to raise funds for an orphanage in his village, stating, “the children are our hope, they are our future and we must help them not to be in despair.”

In 2005, organizations including Shungu Dzevana Trust and Young Generation Preschool in Hatcliffe received more than US$3000 for various projects involving children.
